INDIA

What is India?
When I was in college, I stayed in the hostel. Though it was a very unpleasant experince, it made me realise what is more important in Life. I understood that my mother cooked the best food i had ever eaten. My father is the best person who can take care of me(though in his own rude way). My mother is the most lovely thing that the God has ever created.

I  used to wonder how will God define my mother. Its very complex with one motive ..... "My child, My family". I thinl all men have commited sin. They dont know what "mother" is.

After some great experience in US soil for a month, I found out lots of things..........

-> I cannot stop my car anywhere I want and (have a tea) and ask for directions.
-> I have to wait for a week to visit a doctor to for my Fever (by that time it would be self cured or i am dead)
-> I can never touch my friend(boy) in public.
-> I have to use that fork and spoon everytime I want to eat
-> I have to use paper ............... (I hate this)

"Sorghamme endrallum athu nam naadu pol aguma" (Even if its a heaven, its not as wonderfull as our homeland).
India doent have a beautiful roads, beautiful buildings, great infrasturcture ........... those six lane roads.............
but,
India has onething ........ the people. Yes , i used to wonder whats the problem is with india when i was a kid and all my people around me told "its it  population". Even i preached this till yesterday, but not now.

Those annoying grand people asking you all sort of queations,
Those not so beautiful girls acting as if they are Aiswarya Rai(Even she looks worse by day)
Those kids whose lighten up the whole surrondings
Those annoying big queues for everything
Those ugly roads full of patholes and .....
Those dogs who keep a tight check on the street security.

I Love my country and it no less than any any other country. We may not be rich, but money isnt everything.

MFVP: Chapter 9: Lies ……. More Lies

I always believe in the truth. So here is some truth for you people. I am finding it difficult to continue this story in a third person mode. Last chapter that I wrote(some 6 months back), I had this difficulty in telling you what Raj, karthi and arthi thought and spoke each time. So whom I am who knew what all my characters thought. So this whole concept looks flawed. So I decided to become part of this drama. So I have decided to write the rest of the chapters in first person mode.

So I have to take up some character who will be explaining you the rest of the story. It cannot be Arthi as I don’t know her. I can’t play Raj as the whole thing is about My Friend’s Valentine Project. So that’s leaves us with karthi. Though I don’t like characterization (He speaks too many Lies), I have no choice.

So here is karthi explaining you the rest of the drama as it unfolds. (By the way sorry for the inconvienience., Please drop your comments on this experimentation)

Here we go.

I never tell lies. But what to do, truth is always not so exiting. And what raj needed at this time was Lies. So he left that day to meet her. I had told him to just to talk when you are with her. Talk stupid, talk crazy ……… don’t think if you are talking something logic. Jut talk. I still remember when I met my First Love and never spoke to her. Sometimes we don’t have words to speak when we meet someone like her. I met her on a computer class. She was far elder than me. She used to talk a lot and I used to hear a lot. Anyway …..

Raj has left for a hour now and he should be back in any moment. There he is. He looks excited. Ok I think things would have gone well for him.

“So you look happier, what happened?”

“you know one thing ….. you love Arthi!”

I was shocked, I know this is where it will end, and probably all drama will start.

I kept myself cool, I wanted know everything. I was jealous, I had never dated a girl. Though I keep on saying that I don’t care about these dating and …. There was a internal desire.

“I think she was interested in what happened between you and Arthi than anything else today”

I kept washing the vessels as if not bothered by what he was saying. “You know she was very excited”

“So what” I thought. “Ok I am going to sleep” Raj went to his room. I know I was jealous so I kept quiet. We slept soundly (?) that night. Raj has a bad habit of talking in night. He talks a lot when he is excited or very down. I excepted him to talk a lot today but he didn’t. I was surprised.

So will I ever go on date with a girl in my life. When I thought about this, I thought about Arthi and my next thought was better never than with arthi. But god had other plans. My Date was arranged by fate.

Note :This is a short chapter to start after a long time. Catch u in next chapter.

I 'm Back

Hi all It has been a long long wait for everyone. But the good news is that the big wait is over. I am back and back with a bang(?). I am gonna blog a lot. By the way a big change happened in my life and I was working on that all that time. Now that’s over, and I think should be able to concentrate on other things.

My Mother's 22 Rooms. A good read & happens to be true.

I cannot sing the old songs, or dream those dreams
again - Charlotte Barnard

There it is. Huddled among other dolls and a few
shreds of cloth. It is wearing a blue dress. I don’t
remember what mine wore, for it has been sixteen years
since I saw it. It might not be there anymore, but I
would like to believe that it is there, invisible to
the new occupants of my house. It is a dancing girl
made of earth, decorating a corner of my friend’s
drawing room. Touch it a little and it will start
dancing, moving her neck gracefully. My dancing girl,
mother bought it, when I was a child, from a potter
selling his stuff on a pavement in Lal Chowk.

And sixteen years later, as I speak to you, there is
no significant noise outside my room. No guttural
voice and no sound of my mother’s U-shaped walker
making its presence felt through the small corridor of
my house. Mother fell down from her bed again this
morning.

23 years ago, in Srinagar, a team of health officials
was to arrive at our school. Their aim was to
administer cholera vaccines to children. But for that
we were supposed to take the written permission of our
parents. Back home I told my father and as expected he
wrote ‘No’ on my home task diary. I found it very
insulting. Tomorrow all my classmates would take the
vaccine and sing laurels of their bravery. And me, I
would be hidden in some corner, red-faced with shame.
It was not acceptable to me. So I erased father’s nay
and wrote ‘Yes’ on the diary. Next morning as the
needle of the syringe pierced my left arm, I did not
even flinch once. I became an instant hero. But as it
is with most acts of heroism, I had to pay a price for
mine as well. By late afternoon, a lump had formed in
my arm. By the time I reached home I was feverish and
drenched in sweat. As I pulled off my shoes, mother
saw me and in one instant she knew what had happened.

It was August and even by Kashmir valley’s standard,
it was hot. I flung myself on the bed. Mother came and
sat next to me. She gave me a glass of milk and kept
her fair arm on my forehead. It felt very soothing and
cold; like a spring. I went off to sleep. Next morning
as I opened my eyes, the fever was gone.

Mother handled the affairs of the house like a
seasoned ascetic would control his senses. She knew
what was kept where. Rice, coal powder, woollen socks
and gloves, soap – she kept a tab on everything. Her
daily routine was more or less defined. She would wake
up in the wee hours of the morning, wash clothes in
the bathroom, sweep and mop the floor of every room
and corridor, put burning coal dust in Kangris in
winters and ultimately take stock of the kitchen. She
did not believe much in spending time in worship. She
was not an atheist but her belief was restricted to
occasionally folding hands in front of the Shivalinga.
Her God was her home and hearth.

But mother was in awe of nature. She feared its fury.
Sometimes, when a storm blew, she would close all
doors and windows and sit in one corner. When she no
longer could face it, she would ask my father, “Will
this storm stop?” Father would usually try to pacify
her, but ultimately he also lost his patience. “What
do you think? Would this storm last till the doom’s
day?” he would snap at her. But the same meek heart
turned into brave heart when any family member
struggled with adversity.

It was in the mid of 1988 that my father had a mild
heart attack. Actually father had a pain in the
stomach and an injection prescribed by a
gastroenterologist reacted, which led to the attack.
Everyone in the family was too shocked to react. But
not my mother. She single-handedly took my father to
the hospital in an auto rickshaw. At the hospital,
mother recalls, a doctor appeared like an angel. He
had a black mark on his forehead, a result of praying
five times a day. The moment the doctor started
examining him, my father vomited. Mother says it was
so intense that it went right into the doctor’s shoes.
But not once did he raise his brow. He kept on
treating my father.

By the end of 1989, men like that doctor somehow
became rare in Kashmir. One day mother came back from
office and she was crying. In the bus someone had
tried to help an old Hindu lady in getting down from
the bus. Another woman, who was a Muslim, criticised
that man saying that the woman he helped was a Hindu
and she should have been kicked out of the bus. Mother
didn’t know whether what she heard was true or whether
it was a nightmare. But what she had heard and seen
with her naked eyes was what seemed like holding a
mirror in front of Kashmir in a few months time. The
time had come, once again, to leave our homeland. The
migration began. Salvaging whatever little we could,
essentially a few utensils and educational degrees of
my college-going sister, we reached Jammu.

After spending a couple of nights in a hotel, father
hired a room in a marriage house. It was situated in
the old city, amidst a bristling market of saris and
dupattas. Every now and then marriage ceremonies were
solemnised in the marriage house. When the crude
ovens, laced with mud and gas cylinders arrived at the
house, we would understand that a marriage was taking
place that evening.

In the ten by ten feet room, ants held a sway. No
matter what you put outside, it would be swarmed by
ants in a matter of minutes. They appeared in hordes,
hundreds of them, attacking every edible item. It was
similar to how people would come out on streets in
Srinagar, few months before we were forced into exile.
Mother obviously could not put up a fight with them,
but she always managed to save a bowl of curd from the
marauding ants, by keeping it in a basin of water. I
always felt that whenever mother took out that bowl of
curd, a secret smile would pass her lips. It was like
a symbolic victory for her or so I thought.

And one night, that smile was also snatched from my
mother’s lips.

I remember that evening. Somebody was getting married
in the marriage house. The entire compound was filled
with men, women and children, dressed in shimmering
clothes. The stereo with huge speakers played popular
Bollywood numbers as some of the guests danced on the
tunes. And a few metres away, we had closed ourselves
in the room.

When the bride was taken away and the noise had eased,
there was a knock on our door. Mother opened the door
and found a young man standing there. He was holding a
plate in his hand. He said that he had been told that
there were refugees living here and so he came to
offer us some food. Before mother could say something,
he handed over the plate and turned back. Mother
lifted the cover and I caught a glimpse of the food
inside. There was rice, dal and some vegetables.
Mother kept on staring at it for some time and then
she cried.

After this incident, Mother developed a strange habit.
She would tell all, whether they cared to listen or
not, “ Our house in Kashmir had 22 rooms”.

For the next few years, we would keep on shuttling
from one place to place, becoming victim of the whims
and fancies of landlords. We stayed at various places.
After the marriage house, we stayed in a window-less
room in a dilapidated lodge, where the number of
mosquitoes was probably more than the cells
constituting our bodies. Then we rented a single room
where we ate, studied, slept, cooked and ate our food
as well. Then there was another house. The bathroom
there had no door and we had to keep on coughing for
obvious reasons. Amidst these episodes of Greek
tragedy, mother kept her struggle on. Everyday was a
battle. From filling water from a leaking tap to
bathing under the tap of an adjacent vacant plot, life
threw numerous challenges at us.

It was years later that I completed my education
somehow and came to Delhi. Few years ago, we bought a
2-bedroom flat in Delhi. But the struggle of Jammu has
left a mark on mother. She cannot walk now. Her left
leg is paralysed. Sometimes she falls down as she
tries to drag her leg. As it happened this morning.
She cannot even speak now. Degenerative neurosis,
whatever that means. With each passing day, her
condition is worsening.

I walk on the road. There is a sea of vehicles moving;
endless. Sometimes I feel that there are more vehicles
than humans in Delhi. And when I cannot bear the noise
any longer, I feel like shouting, “Our house in
Kashmir had 22 rooms.”

MFVP : Chapter 8 : At the Transit

It was decided that Arthi should bring Dhivya with her and the reason for the meeting was advertised as “Karthi’s birthday treat” (though karthi had his birthday some months back).Dhivya readily agreed to this idea. Raj had planned all this. It was also decided that Raj will come late after Dhivya and arthi turn up, which meant that karthi had to wait for all of them at the “Hotel Transit”. Karthi was irritated that he had to wait and organize this party, but he agreed for Raj.

As decided, Karthi reached Transit at 5 PM, an hour before they meet. He has to give a missed call to Raj once Dhivya arrives so that Raj can join them little later. Arthi and Dhivya arrived at around 6 PM. Karthi gave a call to Raj as planned. Raj would join them in another 15 minutes.

Dhivya knew how close karthi and arthi were but she was amazed to see that they were behaving as if they were pretty close to each other and as if they don’t know her. Yes … this was also part of the plan to isolate Dhivya so that she will have no other choice other than Raj.

Dhivya was little irritated but she decided not to show it. After sometime she interrupted their talking by asking “Where is Raj?” The reply from karthi was too much “He has gone to meet his project mate Rhema who is suffering from fever and will be back in another 10 minutes”. This was not planned.

Karthi saw that Raj has just entered the Hotel. Karthi stood up and asked “I will get some coffee; my head is aching…… Dhivya what do you want?”

Dhivya “No nothing!”

Arthi also stood up and “karthi, I will also join you.” She knew exactly what she was doing.
Dhivya “Fine. No problem”.

Raj arrived at the right moment (after karthis left).
Before we shall see what happened when raj met Dhivya lets find what’s happening between the great friends …. Karthis.

Arthi – “Get me a hot coffee”
Karthi – “Sorry madam I don’t sell coffees. But you can get the same from this shop. Thank you”
Karthi turned away from her and made order for a coffee. Arthi too made a separate order. After getting their coffees they sat near the coffee shop. Arthi kept herself busy watching the MTV video and karthi the football match. Karthi was a big football fan of Chelsea football club and arthi, a big fan of AR Rehman (Roja song was playing in the MTV video).

Everything was going smooth till arthi started to sing the song on the video.
Karthi – “Excuse me. Can you please stop those murmuring, it’s disturbing me!”
Arthi – “Sorry, comeback again”. She was angry.
Karthi in a teasing tone - “No nothing I said that you sing very …… well. I was wondering if you are, in any way related to Janaki (A great singer)”
Arthi – “F__ k u”
Karthi –“What was that?”
Arthi – “No I said that you are the nicest boy I have ever met in this world.”
Karthi – “Thank you madam ……… I never dreamt in my wildest of dreams …. To sit beside you and have a coffee. That was an honor!”
Arthi – “same here”
After that they never saw each others face and kept watching their respective televisions for sometime.
Karthi – “I think its time we should join them”
Arthi just stood up and started to walk towards Raj and Dhivya. Karthi followed her.

In between let’s rewind back to what’s happened when Harry met Sally …. Sorry I meant when raj met Dhivya! When Raj arrived the first question that Dhivya asked him was

“How’s Rhema?”
Raj didn’t know that karthi had informed that he was late because of Rhema’s fever ……
So raj was stunned but was intelligent enough to realize what happened. He knew that in such cases it’s good to answer, in small sentence which doesn’t convey any real meaning.

“Ok ……” and sat near her.
Dhivya – “Raj said that she had fever and you had went to meet her”
Raj now knew who caused this problem.
Raj –“Ya she is ok ….. I mean fine”
Next question from Dhivya was even more shocking
“So from when did they become friends?”
Raj was puzzled ……… He thought for a moment what would karthi told her.
Raj made a short answer –“Oh ….. You mean”
Dhivya – “Karthi and arthi”
Raj - “Oooooh …….They …….. They become friends yesterday only”
This was not planned too. Raj shouldn’t have told her “yesterday”. But he has.
Dhivya –“What happened yesterday?”
Raj was in real trouble this time. He has to come up with a reasonable story which she believes and should not lead to further stories.
Raj – “What happened is that ……..” he saw that arthi is walking towards them.
Raj in low voice –“arthi is coming…… I will tell you when we are alone …… I mean sometime later when they are not around!”
Dhivya nodded in agreement.

Arthi and karthi joined them. They greeted raj.
Dhivya –“What were you guys doing for such a long time?”
Karthi – “We were having coffee! On the way Arthi met one of her project mate who became a mother recently and we were talking to her. You know they baby was so cute!!”
Arthi was amazed at the regularity and consistency with which karthi can tell lies. Even telling lies requires imagination ……., even more imagination.

They had dinner together and karthi paid the bills for them. During the meet Karthi and arthi were always busy, talking to each other. After the dinner they left home, karthi and raj together and Dhivya and arthi together.

Throughout the journey karthi was explaining to raj, how hard and bad it was to keep on talking and listening to the dumbest girl in this world (according to him). Raj just kept listening to him. It was mission accomplished for raj and he was in a different world till he got a call from Dhivya.

Gossips are something that women like (my theory). They want to know things at any cost. This must be their chief source of entertainment. Women become great listeners when it comes to gossips. Dhivya was no different!

Raj didn’t like telling lies to someone he likes ….. But he also knew that he had no other way but tell lies (which he was not good at). So more on his lies little later (Even I don’t like telling lies).

Proof of Love!

Is it enough that I love you?
Or do I have to say I love you
On saying which, do I have to
Straddle the heaven and earth
And bring you a black orchid

As proof of my love?
I cannot give you anything
But my love. I can’t dance,
But I can arrange flowers.
I also know to watch out for
a Love that is too demanding.

Thanks Miss.Arthi for the same!

My Friends Valentine Project :A Good start?!

Dhivya ……… “She was an angel from the heaven. She was like glittering diamond …… like a lotus on a clear pond! Like a full moon“. Yes, she looked beautiful than most other girls and the secret behind that was lots of money spent to pay beauticians and physicians.

If you ask top marketing managers they will say that even a bad product can be sold if it’s presented in the right way! Yes Dhivya was a marketing manager for a BPO company and she knew how to market herself! Sometimes Education helps you more than required! I won’t say she was a bad product but she was like a product which was better marketed!

There is an old saying that “Beautiful women are half married” but my saying is that they are almost fully employed. She was not a genius in college but still was able to get a better job than most other classmates with high percentages! Many still envy her for that and arthi is one among them.

Arthi was amazed when she heard Dhivya’s name in Raj’s choices. The truth is that arthi and Dhivya knew each other but were not friends. Girls who are friends are very rare and even if they become they don’t last long (This is my theory! There are lots of reasons for this.... lets not dwell into that. If you say that, it’s wrong and if you are a girl …… then big sorry ….. & please carry on).

Ok no more Dhivya details. Let’s move on! Raj has to meet Dhivya now and do it continuously over a period of time before something can happen! So before they left on Saturday they decided to meet tomorrow (Sunday, to come up with a plan)!

Raj had many plans in their mind! During that day, before going to sleep, Raj was on a deep thinking.
Karthi asked “Whats up man you seem to be in deep thinking!”
Raj smiled and said “Nothing ….. Thinking about your grandmother’s sister”
Karthi “How about the trick that every movie star uses to woo a girl? I will disguise myself as a rowdy and try to harass your Grandmother’s sister, while you come and rescue her, as a Hero! And she fell in love with you …... you get married to her ….. And they lived happily ever after”
Raj laughed at “Hey shut …… stop your fairy tales. Ok if you have some good ideas let me know! Else keep quiet!”
Karthi “Ok Raj tell me how do you think she will get attracted to you. Do you think you can tell her, all your mathematical postulates and theorems and your intelligent puzzles to woo her …..? Then better forget her.”

He continued “First thing ….. Dhivya should take notice of you. She should start thinking about you! She should think about you at least once a day. I mean you should get into her mind first!”

“There are two ways of doing it. One is to become a friend …a close friend or a person who annoys her or a person who she hates. And you know which the way is the easiest”

Raj - “Annoy her …… You mean disturb her”

Karthi - “Yes Raj tell me whom do you think about most of the times. Your friends or your enemies. I mean, Daily ….do you think about your project leader more… or about me more….. ”
Raj – “My project manager”
Karthi –“Why …… raj, you keep on talking about him all day”
Raj – “Because he annoys with his CMM level 5 fundas and …….. he kills me by making me fill 100 excels for him, daily!”
Karthi –“Exactly raj ….. Dhivya will start thinking about you more if you annoy her! Forget about becoming a close friend … that will take a decade to accomplish, as girls usually don’t believe in men so easily!”
Raj “Ok looks a great start ……. But what if she starts to hate me!”
Karthi –“True…….. There lies the trick ….. We …. . I mean you should annoy her and get into her mind. But she should not hate you!”
Raj “Looks impractical!”
Karthi “No raj …. It’s as easy as this …….. A woman on saree is sexier than a woman on a swimsuit ………. Because a woman on saree …….. annoys you, as it’s neither completely revealed nor completely hidden! You know that ‘Those unheard songs are sweeter than those heard’ …….. Just like that!”
Raj “I don’t understand the link here!”
Karthi “I mean you ….. A thing which is easily accessible to you or that which is in abundant …….. Loses its attractiveness! So are you to Dhivya! You are always there for her to use you, like other men!”
Raj – “what do you mean by that?” he was little angry!
Karthi – “I mean … Have you ignored her when she asked you for your help? Instead you have helped her, many times when she never asked you for that! Have you ever told her “No”? Never till date…… were you always there for her? …. Like her assistant.”

Karthi – “Raj, Do you know why girls like Diamond and gold, because they are scarce and are not easily available ……. I think you got the point! She will start thinking about you if you start to disagree her in most things and don’t follow what she says! You should appear like you are accessible to her but you shouldn’t be ……… So close but still so far… I mean like a woman on saree.”
“Now I leave it to you to decide what you want to do.”

That was a long lecture by karthi! Raj was amazed …… that there are more than mathematics and theorems in life! Life is a tougher problem than most other problems! And life with women! ……. An unsolved mystery still to be solved?

Lot of people can talk ……. But when it comes to action, lots of them fail! But Raj is not like them. He talks little as he is a man of action! Now that he knew what he wanted to do ……. He called arthi and said to bring Dhivya with her tomorrow for the meeting! Arthi was amazed on hearing this, but agreed to it!

So they all four met at a restaurant the next day!

My Friends Valentine Project: The Agreement

Raj told them all he wanted and said them his research works so for and how he had arrived at the choices.
Karthi was amazed. He had a thought why he never thought in such lines before!
Arthi was not so much amazed as karthi was. She felt bad that the boys wanted to discuss such things with her!

Raj “folks I need your help”
Karthi – “I say it’s a very bad plan ……… your father will never approve such things”
Raj “I never asked whether my father will approve or my grandfather will disapprove”
Raj “I am serious here. I don’t want to marry a woman who I knew hardly and have sex with her on a time predetermined by some damn astrologer! Are you with me?”

Arthi “Fine Raj Am I correct that you want to marry a woman you knew already ………..and understand her better”

Karthi thought why she is always clarifying and summarizing things? (Damn CMM level 5 software engineer mentality) May be she doesn’t have some original ideas to think of!

Raj nodded in agreement! Arthi said “I am with you” Karthi was silent still. Raj and arthi looked at him for a reply!

Karthi – “Raj I want to help you in what ever you do! But this thing looks little dangerous here! My advice is to drop this plan! Have you given enough thought about what are the consequences of this? Remember you have a younger sister. Will you allow anyone to love her and marry her? What about your conservative parents? I think this is a greater risk for the girl loving you ….than yourself! If you still insist I am with you”

Raj and arthi was amazed with the maturity with which karthi spoke. Karthi was known for his irresponsible and fearless attitude in school and college.

Raj “I know about all these things” (though he had never given a thought about what karthi had said)

Karthi – “So who is the girl you are in love”

Raj replied “Sheela ,Dhivya ,Priyanka ,Rhema “
Karthi – “I have never heard such a big un related name in my life”
Arthi – “or is it four different people you are in love with”
Raj – “Yes they are different and they are my choices for my plan”
Karthi corrected “Contingency plan ……. Even before a plan is ready”

Arthi knew two of them Dhivya was their school mate and was her friend too. Arthi wondered why raj was attracted to Dhivya she was dumb and used to laugh at all these crap jokes that karthi said. She thought karthi had a better chance with her with his PJs ……..Rhema was Raj’s project mate. She was not great looking but intelligent enough to match raj in work.

Arthi was quick to ask Raj “So am I true that Dhivya is our school mate …..? (clarification sought) and Rhema you project mate?” “By the way who are the others what’s that sheeeeeeeela and Priyanka .”

Karthi knew them already

He replied – “Sheela used to study with us in computer classes.”

Arthi “when did you go for computer classes”

Karthi –“Way back in 9th standard and she was 3 years elder than us. I doubt if she is not married yet!”

Arthi – “priyanka?”

Karthi – “His family friend’s daughter. I fear that she has a boyfriend already. His father and her father were family friends”

Arthi as usual was summarizing the whole thing “So one is an older aunty who may have child now! Another already has a boyfriend. One is dumb enough to laugh at even PJs and thing which are not even joke (she looked at karthi). One which your project mates who looks like a Einstein’s daughter ……….. Bad choices Raj I doubt how much my help will really matter here”

Raj “See you know only to see the problems in each of them and compare them. Please don’t compare your husband with us when you get married! They are all better woman in their own respect and I respect them. Also I am gonna marry on among them! I don’t want you people making fun about them”

Karthi – “Where do we start?”

Arthi – “Better we start with Dhivya I will ask her to marry you!”
Raj “Arthi it doesn’t work that way. She has to love me ….. I have to love her…… We have to know each other well ……. It should be spontaneous!”

Karthi – “I think its better we start with Dhivya as we all know about her and she being arthi’s friend should be helpful. But what if Dhivya starts loving you ….. will you stop there?”

Raj “sure no more girls …… even in my dreams!”

Arthi – “If that’s true ……… then our first target is Dhivya.”

Karthi though “why is arthi so much interested in this! Does she hate Dhivya so much! Or is there something else?”

Karthi – “Ok some ground rules …. No one knows about this plan or project except us three. Every decision will be made after we all discuss and decide. Raj has the permissions to make decisions in emergency. If anything goes bad ….. No one should show hands at each other. I mean everyone is at their own risk. There is only one motive behind this plan and that’s to get our friend raj married to her Girlfriend (!? Of choice) and there is no other motive behind our plan!”

So if we all agree to this we can move ahead.

Raj was amazed how karthi has become so responsible and determined he is! Arthi was jealous too!

Everyone agreed. Raj – “So karthi what are you waiting for open the bottle …… cheers to everyone!” (It was a Cola which they drank)

Karthi said “Cheers to Dhivya” (He thought….. Oh sorry Dhivya!)

Projects are usually planned perfectly … at least the project people think they have!. In life not everything happens according to plan and most don’t.

So the plan was ready and they were about to start their Mission Impossible 4 (4 girls involved). They didn’t know that trouble was waiting for them in the name of “Dhivya”!

More on her and our “Project Mission Dhivya” sometime later!

My Friends Valentine Project - The Meeting!

Raj lived with two other guys in Bangalore. One is karthi and the other was vinoth. Raj called up vinoth to know if he was leaving home this weekend (so that they can discuss this issue).

Vinoth is a very homely boy? (in the same sense that we say she is a homely girl). He goes home once in every month on the second weekend. So Raj was just enquiring whether they can have a meeting at home to discuss. As expected Vinoth had decided to leave home that weekend.

Raj wanted this discussion to be private. So he made call to arthi first. She hadn't called him for a year or so now (but has given him a missed call (!) every day).

Raj – "Hello. Arthi"

Arthi – "Raj I am busy I will give you a missed call when I am free. Sorry man!"

Raj was about say "bye" but the call was off before that.

He knew that karthi would be at home on Saturday so decided to mail them.

Hi karthi/arthi,

I have arranged for a party at home coming Saturday (6.00 PM). Please make sure you attend the same.

Regards,

Raj

Note: Defaulters will be prosecuted!

He checked up his watch it was Thursday today. So one more day. When he was thinking of the same …. a mail (reply) came. It was from karthi!

Raj,

As you know I have a appointment with my girlfriend at 5.00 PM on coming Saturday. It seems that I will be pretty much occupied during the weekend.

So I will not be able to attend the party that day!

Regards,

Karthi

"Life is once don't waste it by marrying a girl"

The mail was sent to both arthi and him. Raj was wondering who was karthi's girlfriend. He knew the reason behind karthi's new found girlfriend, it was arthi. Raj was determined that karthi should attend the meeting!

Raj replied to all saying,

Karthi, I spoke with your girlfriend just now she said that she is busy coming Saturday as she is on a date with your project mate Prem. I don't think you have two girlfriends. So make sure you attend the party on Saturday.

Karthi never replied back. Raj has always maintained that karthi and arthi are equal to him. He would never hurt one in front of other. Karthi thought that Raj is serious here and decided not to make fun anymore!

So after sometime a missed call came from arthi! The first thing she asked was "From when did your friend have a Girlfriend! (She laughed loud at that) A girl's life screwed! (she murmured)"

Raj was not happy (He was never happy with their fights) Anyway he replied "What's your problem here? Are you jealous? "

arthi "sorry raj I was just wondering ………."  A long pause "So Raj what's the party all about?"

Raj , " Just come over. I have to speak to you both and don't worry, it not about you both".

Arthi "ok Raj I will make to at 6PM sharp "

The meeting was confirmed at last.

Karthi was very curios about what this is all about. Raj and karthi used to have dinner together at the Transit (A hotel). So during the dinner karthi brought this issue forth.

"So raj what's this all about?"

"Just don't ask me!"

Karthi has never seen him so serious before. So he kept quiet and never brought up this before him till Saturday at 6 PM.

Saturday 6 PM arrived and arthi had arrived just 5 minutes back. Her house was just near by (15 minutes walk). She used to walk to Raj's house (part of her weight reduction plan though she was never overweight).

So Karthi asked the question that he was thinking all over 2 days (day and night).

"So you are in love Raj?"

If you think the person who was stunned on hearing this was raj? It was not to be but it was arthi who was shell shocked!

Raj said "Yes I am".

Arthi – "what's this raj?  This is totally unacceptable. You know I can't love you".

On hearing this Raj and Karthi started to laugh like crazy. Raj has not laughed for more than a week now. And karthi enjoyed the moment and he thought "Do you think raj is blind?"

Arthi was very much angered "Ok Raj I am leaving."

Raj stopped laughing on hearing this. He knew that she was embarrassed. Raj gave a look at karthi as if he wants to kill him as he was laughing still.

After sometime karthi stopped laughing.

Raj – "Sorry Arthi that was spontaneous and not intended to hurt you! Don't worry I am not in love with you"

Karthi said in low voice "neither me nor any man with senses"

Arthi – "So you are in love with a girl? And who is that?".

Raj – "Mmmmmm no with a boy" Raj and karthi started to laugh again! This time arthi was so angry that she threw the alarm clock lying near by towards raj.

Karthi was stunned … as it was his clock! –"Hey this is not your house don't destroy my things. Do you think that was your grandfather's?"

"Ok no fighting"  this was raj.

Karthi –"Raj it was you who have called us to discuss something Please don't waste my time (destroy my things). If you want to say something sensible I will wait else I am leaving."

Arthi agreed to that as she was silent.

"Ok there is a puzzle I want to solve and I need your help".

My Friends Valentine Project : The [K]arthis

Life can change over in a moment. And this moment, where our friend decided to let his friends' karthi and arthi know about his plans changed his life!.

Ok lets us know who these [K]arthi are ….

Raj, karthi and arthi did their schoolings together. It was around 12 years before that they met. Oxford school was very busy then as it was admission day. (This school is no way related to Oxford College in UK). There were lot of young boys and girls who had come that day to attend the entrance exams (!?) for the school admissions.

Needless to say that Raj, karthi and arthi were among them.

Karthi was a son of a middle class father who had big dreams of his son! His father was a middle class government employee who struggled hard to meet both the ends (month start and month end). Month ends are usually had lots of fights between his mother and father over lots of issue. But they had this great desire and dream that his son will study and become a scholar someday.

Karthi grew up under the commanding father and his loving mother. His parents had lots of dreams of him and he understood them. Even at that small age he was more mature than most others.

Arthi …. She was not the most beautiful girl around …… neither is she the most intelligent girl around. But she was beautiful and intelligent. She was the youngest daughter of a police commissioner who looked pretty big and threatening. She grew up pretty close to his father and she had her fathers characters …… commanding and arrogant!

Karthi and Arthi were school mates from the kinder garden days. Karthi hated arthi because he hated her father. Once when he was playing football (which his father bought him after lot of struggle and cries), her father jeep went over the football and crushed it. After that he never liked their family except her mother.

Arthi had everything that karthi dreamt of and obviously he hated her. Arthi had no big feelings for him. Karthi for her is like just another boy ….. Until they met in oxford school.

Raj has never met them before and he was also attending the entrance exams and you know what, they were all sitting on the same desk. Arthi was sitting in the middle with Raj and karthi on either side. Arthi on getting seated looked at karthi and gave him a smile. Karthi just gave her a menacing look than she turned the other way. Karthi thought "Do I look more frightening that your monster father".

Question papers were distributed and they started to answer the questions. After half an hour into the exam karthi began to realize that he has no more ink left in his pen. He though about failing the exam and his father looking at him with his leather belt. Ok no need to panic he said to himself. He looked around the people around. Arthi was the one nearby. He called her in a slow voice.

"Arthi ……. Arthi ……. " She turned back…..

"Hey do you have one more pen with you."

"Mmmmmm ……. No "she gave him the menacing look back.

Karthi became pale. He didn't know what to do. He thought "is it possible to commit suicide with the help of a pen without ink? "

He was hearing in the background his father shouting at him with the belt on his hand. Suddenly he heard a voice which he had heard never before. It was Raj who was watching all this after finishing the exam.

"Hey take my pen Return it after the exam" Raj said to him.

Karthi thought God had sent this boy as a messenger to help him.

"Thank you" he said and got his pen and started to write the exam. This is how Raj and karthi came to knew each other.

So Now we know how close karthi, arthi and Raj are with each other. Let's cut the flashback here and continue with our friend's project!

So Raj after striking upon his plan to get his friends help …… called vinoth. Raj is not mad to call vinoth …… to get karthi and arthi's help.  Who is vinoth? What's that he has to do with the [k]arthis?

My Friends Valentine Project : The Choices and The Issues

"Of late I had some questions what's life? Why do we have this life? What should we do with this life? .... It puzzling that I have something without which I am nothing .... (Actually there is no "I"). But I have it and continue to have it but I don't know why!

Sorry don't take me on a wrong note. I have not become saint overnight. Just that after not talking to my Girlfriend for a week I have become mad! (Is it so?).

The truth is that I have never talked to my Girlfriend ......... because I don't have one"

This is what our friend Raj wrote in his Diary a year before.

So before anyone asks me any questions like why no blog for a long time, the answer is simple that I had other works. Anyway my life is of no importance now, as our friend stands on the verge of choosing the answer for his questions.

For people who are puzzled as to who our friend "Raj" is is and what's that he is doing, please read below (other blogs) for details.

Raj decided to make it simple. He has to come up with choices for his question ...... the Big Question.

"Who are the possible candidates for being 'My Girlfriend'?"

Ok he decided let's list down their names!

1. Sheela
2. Dhivya
3. Priyanka (not the priyanka chopra)
4. Rhema choudry

These are the names that came to his mind after 2 hours of hard thinking. He has to choose from them and before that he had one thing to do.

Knowledge is power. I agree to that most of the time. Raj being more intelligent that most others started to think in ways of solving this problem more intelligently.

Raj badly wanted a girlfriend and he didn't want to fail at his first attempt. But he knows that failure is bound to happen because of his

1. inexperience in the same.
2. Neither he has a body of Hrithik
3. nor the face of Arvind swamy
4. nor a BigB like Father with him to guide him to victory.

With all these issues he wanted to know what his chance with each of them is.

1. Sheela - 2/10
2. Dhivya - 4/10
3. Priyanka (not the priyanka chopra) - 0/10
4. Rhema choudry 6/10

Self ranking proved to be a big letdown. Rhema seems to be a obvious choice but what about priyanka , dhivya and Sheelaaaaaaaaa ........ Yes he had the thought behind his mind that Sheela should be the perfect match.

(Ok this is getting little boring as its becoming monotonous as there is only Raj and Raj's thinking. Time to introduce two people who would change his life for sometime now).

So confused he wanted some counseling and as usual he decided the best to do was to involve his friends in this. Only God knew then that he was making the biggest mistake then. (Now even we know J).

Raj had two friends.(Please no assumptions here that both his friends were friends as well).

The good and the bad thing about them is that they were completely opposite to each other. They were so different that once you what type of decision one would make in a situation we can very well say what the other is going to do!.

His two friends are Karthi and Arthi. The similarities end here.

You must ask me the obvious question "Why cant arthi be raj's GirlFriend ? Why is she not in the list? Who is karthi? (who cares about guys these days so the question is redundant)"

Answers little later. I think its becoming little interesting. Please let me know your comments.

Research (not on diffusion tensor imaging with neural networks combined with the programing in JAVA)!

First things first, Research is something which I dislike. For people who are wondering whats that on the title …. That's my Final year project in Engineering. For   any queries you have regarding the above project please don't contact me. I was just managing the project. Yes I used to buy my project mates, lunch snacks and provide them with the environment (They did project in my hostel room on my PC) to work on.

Please don't stop reading as this is not about my Engineering and Image processing ……. This is about us … Our life.

Ok  I am not a MBA graduate but I am going to research on few things by preparing a Questionnaire and asking few of my Indian Friends for their answers. After renaming by blog "Life as it Goes" to "Indian masala" I should start writing something about Indians and which has enough masala in it.

Well I started of by choosing three different guys who think differently about life.

Lets name them for our convenience.

Person 1 :   Ram           – We cant explain him in one sentence. He is so complex. May be so complex that I found asking questions to him quite a difficult task. He wants something but he wants that something in someway that it seldom exists (confused ….. true I was also).

Person 2 : Mohan         – He is straightforward, He says what he wants (though he seldom gets) and does things what he likes.

Person 3 : Charan         – He wants so many things and never gets satisfied even if gets all them…. Satisfaction is something which is not in his dictionary.

The one good common thing about all of them is that they were all single and searching.

They are in search for that elusive relationship in life and that is Girlfriend. I had chance to speak to them and these were few questions I asked then and their replies.

First lets get the basic question . Once in my physics class my physics teacher was giving on a lecture on "Temperature measurement for sun". She started her lecture with this question. "Whats the important thing in measuring temperature of sun". We had all sort of answers like thermometer ….. blab blab la . When we all were finished, she smiled at us and drew a large circle on the black board and said it "the Sun". I am a great fan of her … the way she teaches ,talks …..More on her sometimes later . My first Question was no different! Also please find their answers below as well.

Will you go for a date with a girl!?

Ram     -What is date? Is it just a meeting or spending time with her ……. What more …! After some silence and some questions to confuse me the answer was obvious that he wants to!

Mohan - why should I invest without any profit? (What a answer and ….. I had no answers for him but one question "Whats the profit are you looking at")

Charan -No he said. As he was very much involved in watching BASIC INSTINCT movie I understand his attitude at now. May be he is ready for …. Now!

How to people grow? Its by making mistakes and learning from them. But there are two people who have to learn things without making mistakes. They are a Doctor and a Husband.

They have only one chance in life and they have to do it the right way the first time. Some are gifted and they keep on making mistakes and still don't grow!.

In First Date everyone is desperate that it should be a successful one and they seldom turn out to be! So the next question in similar lines

If you are going for the First date, what type of assets or qualities that you are looking for in her!

Ram     - Beautiful and sensible and sweet in the way she speaks.

Mohan - I should like her first!

Charan - Decent girl

What are the qualities' in a girl that makes you like her!

Ram     - He took 5 minutes to answer my Question and he had hundred questions for me and he never answered my question.(In college he had run away from almost all girls. My advice to girls is that just neglect these type of guys even if you want adventure!)

Mohan - Way she talks!

Charan - He started to answer my question other way "She should not talk too much! Too much care means too much intrusion into privacy"

Where do you want to have your date?

Ram     - Morning walk in a garden and then go for  a small  movie then may be ………!

Mohan - If she talks too much I will take her to place where there is silence and may be places she wants!

Charan - Park… greenery …….no disturbance…… hotel to eat ……cinema ..........  depends!

It true that people lack inventive thinking. Movie park …… whats this ….? I think it should be a place which is in your dreams A dream land full of flowers with silence …….where even a slight touch can be heard. I should be able to hear her reaction when we touch each other accidently. With wind blowing slightly slower against the water flow and that small disturbing sweet noise of water flowing. With her tender legs waving over the running water as if a mother is making her child sleep. ………. Ok get over jack enough sleeping.

What do you expect from her!?

Ram     - !

Mohan - !

Charan - !

The biggest problem with Indian guys is that most of them are shy! There is a great saying that the biggest problem in solving problems is that its not addressed to the right person. How are the girls supposed to know if you don't tell them. Grow up guys!

What will you do the next day............?

Ram     - Check with a doctor!

Mohan - Hai and a bye

Charan – Who knows?

True these guys are not serious about their date……. And this is something which is very new in India and their answers reflect that.

I strongly believe that American culture is the best growing culture in the world. At present they have many issues but the good thing is that they are learning from their mistakes and they are growing. But in India we keep on saying that our culture is great. True I agree to it But culture is something which should evolve and people should grow. And I have a feeling that we are moving down the curve when it comes to evolving.

There may be many things in our culture which we follow with out knowing why it is for. Indian culture had both Rama and Krishna and they say both are same but one was worshipped for marrying only one woman (though he doubted her once) and the other guy had as many wives as a Indian can have! Rama was cunning enough to kill a monkey by hiding behind tree. I don't say there are any flaws here. What I mean to say is we should understand the things behind our culture. Why!

All I am asking for is to people to ask question why when it comes to cultural rituals! There are many things that we should learn from our culture than by making mistakes and learning our self.

My friend's valentine project! The Plan

Ok everyone makes mistakes and I am no different from others. My English is not great and so are my Typing skills. One thing I have to concentrate now is to review things once before I publish the stuff. You may ask what this is ….. You wouldn't ask me if you had read my previous blog.

Ok continuing with my friend Raj ………  I want to answer a question whether Raj is a true life character. Those who are very close to me will probably know the answer but my answer to the question is I don't know. I don't know still. It's hard to believe! But that's what the truth is!

Ok lets come back to the interesting part of it. What did Raj do next? Ok he needed a plan and he being a software Engineer had the project plan already with him. He decided to fit his valentine's plan within the Software project plan. He thought it would work as his projects did!

Ok he had to list  down the phases and work upon them one by one…….

First comes Requirements gathering. This is one of the easiest told but hardly done in most projects. But he decided lets do it perfectly(may be he thought he may get a perfect Valentine). Requirement gathering was simple. He had to ask questions to himself and know the answers.

Ok lets jump into the questions. First comes the main thing who should he fall in Love with, a girl. Ok ………. It was easy one (is it so?) and decided that lets find a girl.

In requirement  we need to define all terms and he tried to define Girl. Lets try Google what does it say about Girl..

ü                      a young woman; "a young lady of 18"

ü                      female child: a youthful female person; "the baby was a girl"; "the girls were just learning to ride a tricycle"

ü                      daughter: a female human offspring; "her daughter cared for her in her old age"

ü                      girlfriend: a girl or young woman with whom a man is romantically involved; "his girlfriend kicked him out"

ü                      a friendly informal reference to a grown woman; "Mrs. Smith was just one of the girls"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

ü                      A girl is a female human child, as contrasted to a male child, which is a boy. The term "girl" is used to indicate biological sex distinctions, cultural gender role distinctions, or both. An adult female human is a woman. A woman may be referred to colloquially as a "girl" in certain contexts; for example, the word is commonly used when discussing adult females in relationships, such as in the word girlfriend, which is often simply abbreviated to "girl". ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girl

ü                      Girl were an English glam band, whose lead vocalist was Phil Lewis, who later sang for L.A. Guns, Torme, Filthy Lucre, The Liberators, New Torpedos and several other bands. Phil Collen, who later joined Def Leppard, was one of Girl's guitarists. Gerry Laffy was the other guitarist in the band. Girl recorded several albums including Sheer Greed, Wasted Youth, and Killing Time. Sheer Greed is also the name of a band Gerry Laffy played in after Girl.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girl_(band

People who are not software engineers will wonder whats he is doing. True this is what most of software engineers do …. most of the time. Search for data …. Information. And all other work are powered by copy and paste. Yes it's a easy to be a software engineer. Its easier than cooking and washing clothes (Believe me).

You may be wondering how my friend who is so used to questions didn't have any questions till now. He had but the bad    (good for others) thing is that he had to answer them all himself.

Girl, there are so many and he have to filter them out to come down to one girl who best matches his criterion.   So what next ….. next question is what type of girl. And the first thought that came to his mind when he thought about his valentine (and it after effects) is "Namitha". For people who are not aware as to who she is. She is one of the best actress that Tamilnadu has produced. Rumours are that she is going to act with Tom cruise in his next flick MI3.

But namitha had this problem that she was taller than him and she was little more beautiful than him. And having her as a girlfriend is like having a elephant as a pet. So ruled out.

Ok let get back to basic. What he is doing is a sequential search which will take O(n) to find the girl and based on his calculation it would take 9 years and 24 days approximately to find the best match if he starts searching them sequentially. So he decided to use Binary search technique for the same.

For people who are not aware of Binary search its pretty simple. It works by repeatedly searching in 50% lesser number of girls by rejecting 50% of the girls based on a particular criterion. So the main thing here is …. At each step in this search he has to reject 50% of the girls who cant be his girl friends based on some criteria.

So what next lets get to the searching procedure.

First condition : His Girl friend shouldn't be elder than him by 5 years and younger than him by 3 years. Afterall sachin is always there for Indian to follow him. So the higher age limit is increased to 5 years more and since girls who are younger than him by 3 years will be too younger and it will not be …… (Fine understood … ).

This proved to be great search criteria as and got further interesting when he checked up indian census reports

Population:

   Persons      1,027,015,247
   Males            531,277,078
   Females         495,738,169

With a sex ratio of 933 (which means that for every 1000 men there are 67 men who don't have matches. Considering that one man marries only one woman). So his search for a girl friend became even more important as he should not be one among the 67 men …………….

Now to find women among age group from 20 to 28 …… mathematics was there for the help. Considering that woman are evenly distributed in age and considering that average age of woman is 60.

The total number of women in age group from 20 to 28 is  8*495738169/60 is 66098422. Ok great we rejected almost 87% of women (As if everyone is applying to him for becoming his Girlfriend).

Again she should be a literate which brings down the number by 54% that is 34693148. Great results. But as every software engineer does he was searching the wrong way and he was intelligent enough to figure that out.

Its not the girls who are after him but its he who is after the girls. So …… after this great enlightment he started to think …. Considering this as a short term project (A proof of concepts) to check whether this approach works he didn't want to waste time in finding the exact target. He knows that there are more difficulties ahead than searching one.

So it came down to one among the girls whio he knew already. Ya one among the girls who had studied with him in school or college or one who is working with him. It was a easier search and he has a small list to choose from. Choose the best answer was one of the sections in the question paper where he was very much lucky during his school and college days.

So he came up with the four choices for his "Choose the best answer" and that decision proved to be far too costly in his life!
